Type 2 Turbidity Curtain right for this Current?
Type 2 Silt Curtain
Hi. I am working on a project and I need a turbidity curtain to contain sediment and protect aquatic life that is in the surrounding area.
The current is about 1.3 knots. Is the type 2 right for these conditions?
Good morning! Thank you for contacting us. In general, the Type 2 turbidity curtain is appropriate to use when you have water conditions with a current less than 1.5 knots. When determining the type of turbidity barrier you will need, some other things you might take into consideration are waves, wind speed, project duration, and other site conditions. While the Type 2 will probably work for your site, you always want to make sure you've checked various other factors that might contribute or apply pressure to your containment system.
When used correctly and in the right conditions, this silt barrier can help you protect aquatic life and habits such as sea grass beds, spawning areas or aquaculture facilities. Controlling the dispersion of turbidity and confining silt settling will help protect it from polluting waters and destroying life. It will also help contractors to comply with the Clean Water Act and NPDES phase II.
