Silt Barrier for House on Stilts
(Michigan)
I am looking for some silt barrier to install around my house. Our house is unique in that it is on stilts over water here in Michigan. Can you tell me a little more about it and why type I would need?
Hello Michigander! Thanks for contacting us; we'd be happy to help. The type of water your home resides over will determine the type of silt barrier you will need. A Type 1 Barrier is used for silt control in calm water such as swales, canals, small ponds lakes and inner harbors. The Type 2 Barrier is best used in water conditions that are are <1.5 knots and have 36” wave swells. Finally, the Type 3 Barrier performs well in intercoastal water ways, bays, harbors and demanding conditions on the great lakes and rivers.
All of our turbidity barriers come in 50' or 100' long sections, with a width of 5'. We can custom design the barrier to fit around your home, if our standard sizes do not meet your specifications. We also have a Basic Installation Guide available, as you may be doing this project on your own.
