I Have a Silt Barrier Installed
Silt Barrier and Wash Down Station
I installed a silt barrier in the river along my construction site, but the inspector says that I am out of compliance. It had something to do with my wash down station.
This is a great question. Thanks for contacting Granite Environmental! Installing a silt barrier is just part of setting up your construction site to meet the Clean Water Act and NPDES Phase II Requirements. There are so many other things that you can do to prevent pollution from sediment and runoff from entering the water stream.
As I look at the picture you sent, I would have to say that one, your wash out station is located to close to the water source. By moving it to the opposite side of the site, you can further prevent hazardous waste from making its way to the water faster. Also, you may want to consider a liner or decontamination tank for wash out applications, rather than just an area blocked off by silt fence.
Keep in mind that these are just quick glance recommendations. I would speak with your inspector and ask for ideas on how to stay in compliance.
