How to Install a Staked Silt Barrier?
Staked Silt Barrier Installation
Hi. I am looking to use a staked silt barrier on my site but I'm not sure how to install it? Can you help me?
Hello! Thank you for contacting us! Typical installation for the staked silt barrier is designed for moderately sloped sites with porous soil and can be used in water depths less than thirty inches (30").
The first step to installing this silt barrier, is to dig a trench eight inches (8") deep along the desired flow control path. When digging this trench, you will want to place the fill on the up-slope side of the trench. Next you should take the one inch by one inch (1" x 1") wooden stakes and place them on the down-slope side of the trench. The maximum centers for these stakes should be six feet and ideally, you will want to have thirty-six (36) inches of the stake above the gradient.
After the stakes are in place, unroll the silt barrier. With the hemmed edge of the silt curtain on the top, carefully attach the barrier to the stakes with ties. Thirty-six (36) inches of this silt curtain should be attached to the stake above the gradient, and eight (8) inches should be in the trench. After you have secured this barrier to the entire flow path, you can begin start replacing the back fill. This should fill the eight (8) inch trench and trap the bottom of the silt barrier. This will create an effective runoff seal.
Hopefully this helps you with your installation process. If you have any other questions please don't hesitate to give us a call.
